Smart
From my smart friend with whom I have all sorts of interesting msn messenger conversations:
most people don't understand art until people confirm that it is good and thus somehow justified to the average person... to tell someone that you are pursuing your art with no results as of yet - it is hard for them to believe in it: because it's not concrete.

i think there's also a certain degree of envy in it. while my parents will often piss all over my day too, i've overheard my mother say "she's doing what everyone else wishes they were doing." my mother is 51 years old and still trying to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up.
good point. I never admit of that one - that anyone would be jealous of my life. I cn see how that would make my father say "I don't want to fund Matthew's bad decisions." My decisions are not bad, but the admittedly require his help, and maybe he doesn't like facilitating that for someone who is not him. This would all be subconscious, of course.
